The New Stuff

Poha / Flattened  Rice

I was going through a lot of food blogs and  realised that nearly all of them write a nice ,sweet little story before every recipe. What baffles me is   how does  every recipe have such an interesting story behind it .Well either I rack my brains for one or become an interesting story teller.
Now say for example this "poha" , what can I write about it which will make you read that  before getting inspired or humoured (can I say ) to make it. Hmmm....beats me...friends just go ahead and make it.Wish me better luck next time.

Ingredients

1.          2 cups poha

2.          2 medium potatoes cubed into small pieces and soaked in water to avoid discolouring.

3.          1 medium onion chopped fine
4.          1 sprig of curry leaves
5.          ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
6.          ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
7.          1 green chilly chopped fine

8.          4 tablespoons oil
9.          1 cup heapful fresh grated coconut

10.     1 teaspoon lime juice
11.     Salt to taste

Method

1.              Wash the  rice in a big pan of water and leave in a strainer to  let the water drain out .

2.             Take oil in a pan and turn the gas on medium flame.
3.              When the oil becomes warm add the cumin seeds and stir for a while.

4.             Add curry leaves followed by the onions and green chillies.

5.              When the onion changes colour, add the turmeric powder and the potatoes , stir for a few seconds and cover the pan with a lid. Stir occasionally and sprinkle water if you feel that the potatoes are sticking to the bottom of the pan.

6.              Tumble in the flattened rice and stir . Many people prefer poha without adding the grated coconut, it tastes good but I feel the coconut makes it delicious.

7.              Add the coconut and sprinkle the lime juice and the salt and mix gently.

8.              The poha is ready to be served.
